Local Service Projects
Every year Berkeley Rotary Club assists local schools and non-profit groups with hands-on volunteer work, including:
- Malcolm X School – built garden boxes for environmental learning
- Francis Albrier Community Center – rebuilt computer center
- Bahia Child Care Center – built play structures
- YEAH homeless shelter – built handicapped ramp
- YMCA of the Central Bay Area, Teen Center – assisted in painting interior
- West Berkeley Recreation Center – assisted in painting interior
- BOSS, Harrison House shelter – built play structure
- Ed Roberts Campus, Through the Looking Glass (Head Start program) – built play yard storage and equipment
- Literacy Center Golden Gate Fields – refurbished classroom and provide tutoring for ESL program, computer training, citizenship classes
- YMCA of the Central Bay, Head Start – built and installed educational garden boxes
- Options Recovery – landscaping and interior painting
- East Bay Regional Parks District – created the Tilden lookout, planting 500 redwood trees to screen the Carousel and establishing the Tilden Peace Grove.
- CEID, Center for Early Intervention on Deafness - Refurbish sandbox, painting, planter box covers, and general cleanup
And we provide financial support assistance to local non-profit groups, including:
- Berkeley Arts Center – program support
- Rosa Parks Elementary school – equipment and enhancements
- BUSD summer reading programs
- Rosa Parks & Cragmont Elementary Schools – chess instruction
- YMCA of the Central Bay Area – support for student leadership committee of Teen Center
- BORP, Bay Area Recreation and Outreach Program (for disabled youth) – specialized equipment
- Berkeley Public Library – library equipment at each branch
