Igor Tregub

 

 

 

Igor Tregub is the Strategic Partnerships Director and Senior Policy Advisor at the California Solar and Storage Association (CALSSA) in Sacramento. Prior to CALSSA, Igor spent 12 years at the U.S. Department of Energy serving in roles spanning nuclear safety, nonproliferation, energy, and intergovernmental affairs in California, Nevada, Texas, Washington, D.C., and Central Asia. He has founded and/or served as partner at several small businesses specializing in campaign strategy consulting.  

Igor holds an M.S. in Engineering Management from Duke, a Certificate in International Security from Stanford, a Certificate in Public Leadership from the University of San Francisco, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and B.A. in Political Science from UC Berkeley (GO BEARS!). Through a Harvard Kennedy School certificate program, Igor is currently working on an organizing project to bring distributed solar and storage and energy democracy to his homeland of Ukraine.
 
He has long been active in environmental, civic, and political groups, both as a student and in the years since graduating. His local public service experience includes two elected terms on the Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board, various appointed roles, and service on the Sierra Club’s California Executive Committee and as chair of its Northern Alameda County Group, co-chair of its SF Bay Energy and Climate Committee, and SF Bay Chapter’s immediate past chair. He is currently the Chair of the Central Committee of Alameda County Democratic Party; Chair of the California Democratic Party Environmental Caucus; Vice Chair, Sierra Club Northern Alameda County Group; Council of Club Leaders Delegate and a member and adviser to many Sierra Club and other advisory groups on water, energy and climate change issues. He is a policy adviser to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Climate Crisis Council Policy, an adviser on East Bay, Water Education for Latino Leaders, and served as  Curriculum Adviser for the 2022 Clean Energy Leadership Institute. Currently, he is a Commissioner on the  Berkeley Environment and Climate Committee and on the city’s Berkeley Zoning Adjustments Board, and  also serves on the AC Transit Parcel Tax Oversight Committee.  

Clearly a passion of recent years, Igor has been the Political Director for Hromada (Ukraine advocacy organization and nonprofit), and in that role helped raise over $60,000 in relief funds for his embattled homeland, Ukraine. Our club’s efforts raising similar monies for Ukraine relief was cited by him as a reason for joining.

He is married to Marissa Ares, and they celebrated their 12th anniversary last year. His hobbies are many, active, and diverse: long-distance running, soccer, badminton, traveling, hiking, learning about random subjects, public service, energy democracy, international security, climate stewardship, beer sampling, writing. In his spare time, he enjoys working on writing short stories and poetry.
