Dr. Olatubosun “Ola” Fasipe

 

 

Dr. Olatubosun “Ola” Fasipe, sponsored by Dee Hubert, is a post-doctoral scholar in Civil/Environmental Engineering at U.C. Berkeley. He obtained a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, in 2007 and a Master's and Doctoral degree in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering in 2014 and 2021, respectively, from the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He is a Principal Scientific Officer at the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) and has practiced in various sections of the economy, including construction, oil and gas, and most recently, the energy sector.

While with ECN, Ola was involved in Nigeria's Northeast geopolitical zone rebuilding efforts by implementing renewable energy projects that provide access to modern energy services in rural communities affected by the insurgency crisis. He is a 2023-2026 Miller Research Fellow Awardee at the Miller Institute for Basic Research in Science, University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on quantifying energy needs with a view of establishing baselines for sustainable energy use.

As part of the Miller Community Outreach Initiative, which is dedicated to educating and inspiring the next generation of potential scientists, Ola recently made a presentation to 9th graders at Contra Costa College’s Middle College High School. He previously volunteered as an Atlas Helper for the International Journal of Hydropower and Dams in the United Kingdom.

Ola has a wife, Priscilla, and a son. He enjoys footballing (i.e., soccer), traveling, and watching movies.
